Thomas Tuchel Criticizes Wembley Crowd Support Despite Dominant Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his sadness that the England team did not get greater support from the Wembley fans during their commanding friendly win against Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his squad showcase their winning momentum, with finishes from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter effectively ending the game. Yet, he was not content with the mood at the iconic venue.
“We had limited sessions to get ready against a organized team and we performed excellently,” the coach remarked. “It could have been five goals ahead at the break. We couldn’t score the additional ones. The stadium was silent. There was no any energy from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you give in the first quarter? We prevented them get away. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s disappointing because the squad earned better encouragement today.”
“I stand by my words. There’s nothing more than being 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a bit more support in periods where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It could have helped us to regain energy, but that’s the way it went and that is it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Performance
Apart from risking a dispute among supporters, Tuchel also caused a stir by excluding Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. However the move was justified by Morgan Rogers delivering another standout performance in the attacking midfield role and netting his first international goal.
“He is what he is,” the head coach noted. “He is a No 10 and he is vying for his position.”
Bellamy Seeks Improvement from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who host a strong Belgian side in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, take lessons from their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this friendly,” the manager said. “I need to see our standing. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? Today gives me inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Watkins was substituted at half-time after clattering into a post and may miss out when the national team play Latvia in Riga in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
