Melania Trump's Meme Coin Creators Facing Market Manipulation Fraud Lawsuit
The developers behind a cryptocurrency introduced by US First Lady Melania Trump have been alleged in court filings of planning a fraudulent operation.
Initial Launch and Price Surge
The $MELANIA cryptocurrency were released for a minimal price each on the 19th of January, just prior to Donald Trump was inaugurated.
Alongside the First Lady's token, Trump himself introduced his $TRUMP coin a few hours before the inauguration ceremony.
Within hours, the value of the $MELANIA coin surged to over $13 per coin.
Sudden Collapse in Price
Nevertheless, the market price subsequently crashed almost as quickly, and is now only about 10 cents – below a fraction of its highest value.
In parallel, the $TRUMP cryptocurrency hit a high of nearly forty-six dollars and currently exchanges for approximately five seventy-nine.
Legal Allegations and Investors' Arguments
The plaintiffs assert that the token's architects executed the operation aware that the token's worth would decline sharply.
Melania Trump personally is not included in the legal action. The plaintiffs clarified they do not believe she was at fault, but accused the crypto companies of using her and other well-known personalities as window dressing for their illegal activities.
Exchange Platform Role
In newly filed legal documents, plaintiffs allege executives of the Meteora trading platform, where Melania's coin was first exchanged, of establishing a operation that permitted them to discreetly acquire substantial volumes of the cryptocurrency.
Associated individuals then rapidly offloaded these digital currencies, pocketing substantial profits while leading to the value to crash, according to documents filed in federal court in Manhattan.
Wider Proceedings
The allegations concerning the Melania token have been added to court cases involving several other virtual tokens, which started in spring.
The Trump organization has reportedly generated over a billion dollars in pre-tax profits from several cryptocurrency-related enterprises and organizations over the last year.
